Dia was born on December 9, 1981 to father Frank Handrich, a German National and Bengali mother Deepa at Hyderabad. She could not enjoy complete parental love since her parents got separated when she was 6 years old. As a child, she attended Vidyaranya High School and Nasr School.
She was considered to be an introvert girl when she was young but her mother supported her and encouraged her to be an actress with strong personality. She worked on her shortcomings and today she is known to be an actress with good personality.
When she finished her school, she got a job of marketing executive at Sriven Multi-tech in Hyderabad. It was that time she did an ad campaign which appeared in Femina, then she was encouraged to take part in Femina Miss India Beauty Pageant (2000) and declared the second runner-up, but there she won three titles namely Femina Miss India-Pacific, Sony Viewer's Choice Award, and Miss Beautiful Smile. She went on to be crowned Miss Asia-Pacific on December 2, 2000 at Manila, making her the second Indian to win this award after a gap of 29 years.
She was interested to complete her graduation course through correspondence, but due to hectic schedules because of modeling assignments (she did for Lipton, Emami to name a few), traveling and training for the contest, she was unable to do so as expected and intended.
Movie Career
Dia made her cinematic debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (2001) opposite R. Madhavan but the film was not a success at box office. A series of unsuccessful films followed, including Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Deewaanapan. In 2005, Mirza gave special appearance in Parineeta, a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. She also played in the music video Kajara Mohabbat Wala from Sonu Nigam album Kajara Nite.She has acted in many films as a lead role or gave special appeareces, some of her films are Dus, Fight Club, Dus Kahaniyaan, Heyy Babyy, Om Shanti Om, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala. There are many upcoming projects ready to hit the silver screen and few of them are Shoebite, Zindagi Tere Naam, Alibaug, Krazzy 4, Mermaid - A Love Story, Bits And Pieces, Kabhi Bhi Kahin Bhi, Prateeksha, etc.
